Our Top 5 Blog Post Titles of 2022

We are continuing our review of the year by looking at which were our most read blog post titles of 2022.

Last year for both our emails and our blog posts we noticed the titles that got the most clicks had numbers in them and this is still the case for three of our five most read posts this year. There are also some other common themes we’ve identified this year, but let’s look at the blog posts titles first.

The Common Themes

Numbers

Yep, titles with numbers in still attract people’s attention. They know what they’re going to get from reading the post, they have a rough idea how long the post is going to be from the number and so they’re happy to take the time to click in and have a read.

Practical Advice

We know our audience want to make progress with their website or membership site and they need practical advice to do this and it shows from the posts they’re reading. We occasionally write posts about our experience in business or to help people get to know us better and they get read by some people but they don’t get the same interest as the posts that are going to help people make progress with their website and in their business.

Guidance Around Content

We can see that posts that help people get their website content right are also very popular on our blog. The title at number four was our fourth most read post last year as well. It’s got staying power and it’s a guest post written for us by Kate Llewellyn of The Content Consultancy, which shows the power of getting the right guest bloggers on your website.

We Have a Good Balance of Posts

Overall, looking over our blog I feel we have a good balance of posts. We have those that really resonate with our audience with the content they want, which also attracts new people. We also have posts that help our audience get to know us better if they are interested.

The post at number one is actually slightly more techy than would appeal to most Ready Steady Websites® members or potential members but it will attract the type of people who buy our Missing Bits for MemberPress plugin (another little income stream we have) and it’s also a great post for SEO to get us seen for Membership Site Templates. For most search terms relevant to that post we come top of Google, higher than MemberPress itself and we are on the first page of Google if people search for Membership Site Templates or Membership Templates.

It’s not just an SEO boosting post though, it is genuinely useful and is actually a repurpose of a video we put on YouTube so that has been a valuable piece of content that we’ve used wisely.

Top Tips for You

Hopefully you can take some learning away from this by considering the content you could be putting out which will attract new people and also address the needs and wants of your current audience.

What practical, easily actionable content could you be putting out there?

Are there some things that people are searching for that you could create content about? Chris created the content for our top post because lots of people were asking about this kind of thing but there weren’t many answers out there.

For all posts make sure they are genuinely useful and you have calls to action is them so that people carry on reading other posts or look around your website to find out more about what you do. With that in mind, do go and check out the posts above to see what got people reading and to get some inspiration for your own blog.
