The 3 Reasons We Are Changing our Weekly Emails

We have been sending out our weekly emails using a very similar format for a couple of years now. The content has varied slightly over that time but on the whole the emails have included a blog post, some kind of video content whether it’s details on an upcoming live or a link to a pre-recorded video on our YouTube channel, info about a guest opportunity or an offer and more recently a freebie from a business friend.

Engagement in Weekly Our Emails Has Dropped off a Bit

When we started this format we got a lot of engagement. Open rates were excellent (they’re still good) and click rates were good and they’re now ok. Interestingly our unsubscribe numbers haven’t changed much and are pretty low, which tells us people still want to hear from us but what we are sending out isn’t really grabbing their attention or maybe they’re just a bit tired of the same thing every week.

Engagement in our other emails such as emails to our members or mentoring members and emails about specific offers is still really good so we know our list is engaged but not with the same old stuff.

Over the years we have had people telling us that our emails are the only emails or the only blog posts that they read every week. That’s really lovely to hear and so we want to make sure we keep providing really strong content for those people but we don’t feel we are doing this at the moment. We are aware we are recycling content a lot and although this is fine to a certain extent because not everyone is reading everything we put out so it makes sense to make the most out of content, we do think there are only so many times we can repeat the same advice.

People Seem to be Wanting a More Personal Touch

We are also working with a new business coach who has opened our eyes to how much people want the personal touch from a business. Now, we always thought we were pretty good at this. The support we offer to our members is often mentioned in amazing testimonials and it’s the thing that people talk about when they refer others to us but we have realised we can be doing more of this even before people become members. We want to spend more time giving support to people with specific issues rather than putting lots of general info out there.

It’s Always Good to Try Something New to Learn From It

It’s so tempting to keep doing things just because that’s how we do it and it works OK and we don’t want to rock the boat but actually we will learn something from doing this. It might be a massive turning point for us and create a huge amount of engagement. It might be that it goes down like a lead balloon and our subscribers demand their weekly emails and blog posts back. Either way, we will have learnt something.

Our New Look Weekly Emails

So, from next week onwards our emails will look different. For three weeks we will send out shorter emails. One may have some news in about our business, one might have an offer in, another might have a great tip or a link to a really useful resource we have found. They will all be short and sweet. Then once every four weeks we will send out an email that looks more like the emails our list is used to with a blog post and other useful free resources or links.

We’d Love Your Thoughts

So, if you are on our list, what do you think? We’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Do you think we’re right and it’s time for a change or are you unsure? Let us know by sending us a quick email.

If you aren’t already on our list and would like to be, go and choose one of our useful free resources or subscribe to our blog.
