10 Tools to Help You Create A Business Website

There are tools out there to make every part of your business easier and it’s no different when it comes to creating your website. So, here are some great tools to help you create a business website. Some of them we have created ourselves, some we recommend and using a combination you should feel on track to getting a brilliant business website launched.

Tools to help you with project management

The first thing you need to do is get organised and we recommend using a project management tool to help you make note of all the tasks you need to do and set deadlines for completing them so you stay on track. I personally prefer Asana for this whereas Chris is more of a Trello guy. Both do the job well.

Tools to help you with your brand

If possible we would always recommend you get a brand designer to create a brand for you. It’s really important that you have a consistent brand across every touch point you have with your potential clients or customers, including your website. And it’s also really important that this brand works well on your website with a logo that works at small scale in a website header and a brand colour pallet that you can take colours from to use on your website. This should include stand out accent colours for buttons or links.

If you are going the DIY route with your brand we recommend you keep it simple and use a simple typeface logo. Then pick two fonts that complement the logo and work well together, one for headings and one for body text.

When it comes to picking brand colours, this blog from our archives is really useful and so is this colour picking wheel from Adobe.

Google fonts is great for choosing fonts and there are some tips on choosing fonts that pair well together in the knowledge section.

Tools to help you plan your website and create content

Planning your website is key to its success in generating leads and sales. We talk about this a lot! So much so that we have created all of the following…

Our Website Planning Checklist which comes with our Website Planning Workbook.

Our Website Planning Workshop

The Website Handbook

These resources won’t just help you plan your website but they will help you write your content and choose the right images for your website. They will also help you choose the best method for you to create it.

Website Creation Tools

Now these are harder to recommend. It really does depend on what you need or want from your website as to the method of creation and the platform your website should sit on.

One thing that is easy to say is, if you are creating a pure e-commerce website with links to fulfilment centres or detailed stock control or order options required then Shopify is the way to go.

For most other websites, including websites that have a simple e-commerce element to them alongside other content, we think WordPress is probably going to be the best option especially if it’s packaged up in an easy to use and easy to understand way which we and others out there have done.

If you were expecting us to mention come of the other popular DIY builders and page builders, we’ve already written a post talking about those which you can read here

Here’s a summary of all the tools to help you create a business website that I mentioned

Adobe Colour Wheel
