Can I Create My Own Website If I’m a Technophobe?

So the answer to the question, “Can I create my own website if I’m a technophobe?’ is, yes.

Well, that was the easiest blog post I’ve ever written.

OK, I’ll be serious.

In fact I would say with the right support it’s quite a good idea to create your own website if you’re a technophobe. Because once you’ve been through the process of creating it then you’ll be more confident in keeping it up to date and adding new content on an ongoing basis which is really important as well.

What’s the best way to create my own website?

If you really aren’t confident with tech then you’ll need to choose an option to create your own website that includes support from a consistent person or small team. They’ll get to understand how you work and will be able to guide you when things get difficult and rectify any little mistakes you make which are all part of the learning process.

It’s also a good idea for you to use a service that has good video tutorials and support documentation that you can keep coming back to time and time again to make sure you feel confident doing something even if you’ve done it before so you aren’t second guessing yourself.

Why is it important to keep adding new content to my website?

You should keep adding new content to your website for a number of reasons.

Firstly, things change. Content gets out of date so you need to be able to make little tweaks easily yourself. You don’t want to have to wait on someone else to do them if it’s a quick price change or venue change etc.

Secondly, it looks good to website visitors who might be returning to your website while deciding whether to work with you if they can see evidence that you’re busy such as a new testimonial or a new useful blog post.

Thirdly, adding new content to your website means that the search engines have to re-index your website so you’re giving them a little nudge and reminding them you’re there which will help your search engine optimisation or SEO. This means people are more likely to find you when they’re searching for your type of business.
