5 Things You Need on Your Entrepreneur Website

If you are at the start of creating your entrepreneur website or your current one needs some TLC to make it work better for you and your business then these are the things you need on your website.

Your Entrepreneur Website Should Have a Clear Purpose

You might have your fingers in lots of pies. Often entrepreneurs have more than one business or they have one business with a variety of different offerings to create a number of different income streams and to cater for a range of client needs. This sometimes means that an entrepreneur website can get a little bit messy. The way to solve this is to stop and think, What do I want my website to achieve? What action do I want people to take on my website? What is the purpose of my website?

It may be that although you’ve got a lot of things going on the purpose of your website is to sell one particular offer (you can then up sell or down sell them from there). Or you might want the home page of your website to outline three offerings or three different businesses you have, to give people the chance to go and find out more about the one that’s right for them on a separate page and then offer them an action to take on that page.

Whatever the purpose of your website is, if you are specific about it and have it clear in your mind it will make it easier to get the layout and content right to get your website visitor to take the action you want them to. If you are vague and have the purpose of “just letting people know what I do” then your website isn’t likely to actually achieve much for you and your business(es).

Your Website Needs to Have Clear Calls to Action and Focused Content

By clear call to actions I mean they need to stand out so they catch people’s eye and they want to click on them but I also mean it’s clear from the words what will happen when people click. Don’t disguise the fact you’re trying to get someone to book a call by using the words “Get in Touch” or “Find out More” that’s just going to annoy some people.

Your calls to action should all be linked to the purpose of your website. If the idea of your website is to give people a chance to find out more about what your offer and then contact you if they like what they see, make those two things your calls to action.

As with the purpose of your website, the more specific you are about what you’d like your website visitor to do on it, the more you tailor your copy to show your website visitor that you have got the solution to their problem or you have what they want, the more likely they are to take action.

Have a Brilliant About Page on Your Entrepreneur Website

It’s always a really good idea to have an about page on any website, people buy from people after all and so you want people to get to know you but this is possibly even more important on an entrepreneur website. As an entrepreneur your personal story may have informed your business choices. Some of your experiences before going into business may demonstrate your expertise and qualifications to run the business you’re running today and if you’re looking for investors this may interest them as well, not just potential clients or customers.

Your story should definitely sit on your about page though, not your homepage. A little bit of about info is great on your home page but don’t launch into your full autobiography there. The copy on your home page should be all about your potential client or customer, getting them to take action. The copy on your about page can go into greater detail but still keep your website visitors in mind. As you’re telling your story, keep checking why you’re putting each bit in. Is it relevant? Is it needed? Will it help make someone want to work with you?

Also, calls to action aren’t just for your home page or sales pages, have them on all pages. Give people a chance to find out more or link them to a specific service or give them a chance to get to know you better through joining your email list.

Include Proof of Success on Your Website

Testimonials, client logos, examples of your work and photos of you in action are all brilliant things to evidence that you actually walk the walk.

You may feel that if you are just starting out in business you don’t have any proof of success but this isn’t true. Ask past colleagues to write a short testimonial about your relevant area of knowledge or what you’re like to work with.

Sometimes clients who you worked with in previous roles may be happy for you to write a case study about the work you did or include their logo on your website as long as you make it clear this is work you did in a previous role. It still showcases your experience.

The more work you do, the more you will be able to add to your website. Your website is never finished it should evolve with your business.

One key thing to remember is you should always ask permission before you include anyone’s logo, photos or words on your website.

Have a Choice of Contact Methods on Your Entrepreneur Website

Make it really easy for people to get in touch with you. Have a clear contact button on your website at the top which leads to a nicely laid out contact page. On this page give options for how someone can get in touch. Some people don’t like to talk initially they just want to send a message or email so have a contact form or a clickable email address on there. Others hate writing, they want to talk so have a phone number on there that’s clickable on mobile or the options for someone to book a call.

By giving people this choice it shows you think about your clients’ or customers’ needs.

Other Things to Consider when Creating Your Entrepreneur Website

Your website reflects you and your business so it needs to look good and work really well. You want to create an amazing user experience on your website to reflect the high quality of the service you give through your business and the work you do or the products you sell.

You can have the most amazing business but if the first point of contact with it is terrible those people may never find out how amazing it is if the website puts them off. So, make sure you choose a method for creating your website that will create a high quality finished website.
