How Setting Website Related Goals Will Have a Positive Impact on Your Business
We have seen it time and time again, the people who have clear goals for their website and are proactive in doing the work needed to achieve these goals are the people who see their website making a positive impact on their business.
So, what kind of positive impact on your business are we talking about?
If you’re doing it right your website will do the following for your business:
- Attract the right people.
- Bring in consistent leads and enquiries.
- Make frequent sales.
- Get people talking about you and sending traffic to your website.
- Get you seen organically on search engines.
- Take simple business tasks off your hands to save you time.
What website related goals should you be setting to make these things happen?
1. Review your website content quarterly to ensure it’s talking to the people you want it to attract.
Think about whether your copy still works, whether your services or product descriptions are still accurate etc.
2. Have two clear call to actions on the homepage of your website which will encourage people to make an enquiry or to get to know you better and review how these are doing every month.
If you have a free lead magnet on your website, is it getting people onto your email list? If you have an option for people to book in a call with your or fill in a contact form, are they doing it? If not, maybe you need to offer another way for people to make enquiries or another resource they may be interested in. Or maybe you need to make it clearer what will happen on the call so they feel comfortable booking it or make it clear what benefits your lead magnet will bring them.
3. Make it easy for people to buy and showcase the services or products you want to push the most prominently on your website.
And, you’re probably seeing a pattern now, review this monthly. If you’re seeing a lot of people buying two things together, make more of this through suggestions on your website to encourage others to do the same. If there’s a particular product or service that’s good for a certain time of year, make a note to feature it on the homepage of your website leading up to that time.
4. Create regular new and helpful content for your website at least every month.
Blog posts or Vlogs with top tips relevant to what you do are great for attracting the right people to your website in a non-salesy way. This is the type of content that other people will talk about and share for you. At the end of that content make sure you give people a call to action to look at something else on your website. Maybe another blog post, maybe a relevant free resource or service. Once you’ve got them there, you want to keep them there.
The more consistently you do this, the more people will look out for your posts and tell others about you and this is the type of content that helps with getting you seen on search engines as well as long as it’s relevant to what you do or sell.
5. Add calendar booking systems, class booking systems and the ability to pay for products and services to your website.
These don’t have to be on pages that are visible to everyone if that’s not right for your business. You can have them on stand-alone pages that you send people a direct link to. But think about how much time you can save by not to-ing and fro-ing on email to find a date for a meeting with someone or by not having to send out an invoice, instead you take an online payment and the system sends them a receipt for you. I can’t tell you how much time this saves us and that time is now spent on doing more marketing activities which means more clients and customers!
Are you wondering how you’re going to stay on track with your website related goals?
Find a planning and monitoring method that works for you. Me, I’m an old fashioned pen and planner girl but I also use Asana for planning any joint tasks or projects with others.
In our book, The Website Handbook we have a section to help you plan out ongoing work on your website and a link to get the planning sections as worksheets to use as many times as you need.
Also, finding a business friend to keep you on track or joining an accountability group is also a great idea. And once you get consistent with adding new content and telling people about it regularly that itself will keep you accountable.
We send out a weekly email on a Monday and once a month we include a blog post in that. People tell us that they always read our email and blog posts and so knowing those people are waiting for it is the thing that keeps us accountable. Hello if you’re one of those regular readers! We really appreciate your support.
Also seeing people moving from being on our email list to joining Ready Steady Websites® shows us we’re doing something right and if we stay consistent the members, clients and money will all keep coming in.
We have money coming into our business every single day of the year. And I know some people don’t like people talking about this but we are in business to make a living. We also love meeting people through our business, helping people, having fun with it, the flexibility our business brings us and lots of other things but if the money wasn’t coming in we’d have to do something else.
It’s our website that has made that happen. We put the hard work into our website and our content and we know our website needs a revamp again (it’s in our plan for next year). Your website needs to be added to and worked on consistently to see the benefits in your business but it’s worth it.
You might now be thinking, but what if I can’t do all this on my website?
We have had a lot of people on our workshops or who have read our book saying they can’t implement our advice because they don’t know how to use their website or it’s controlled by their previous web person or they are using a free website and it’s very basic.
We really urge you to move to a platform where you are in control of your website, you get training to understand it and that’s flexible so you can add content and functionality to it as your business grows, without being charged for every new thing.
Funnily enough we do know a business that does that 😀 and if you think we would be right for you then it would be great to have a chat with you and we will be honest and tell you if we think we’re a good fit. If not we will recommend some good options for you.
